SANDY MELDRUM, B.A. (Hons), P.G. Dip. Ed.
Sandy is a BA Honours degree graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama course in Traditional Music---their first-ever graduate with honours in Traditional Piano. He graduated in Accordion and plays the Highland Bagpipes, the Scottish Smallpipes and plays keyboards in an Edinburgh rock group.
Sandy has played the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall at annual Celtic Connections Festivals, live on BBC “Take the Floor”, RSAMD concerts and tours, in the “Fergie Macdonald Traditional Highland Ceilidh Dance Band”, the “Alasdair MacCuish Black Rose Ceilidh Band”, “Robbie Shepherd’s Nightmare” band, as well as on Radio MOD broadcasts.
Sandy played piano on the “Deoch ‘n’ Dorus” CD and in 2005 accompanyed the Mod Gold Medallist Darren MacLean on one of their pieces performed at the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Final of 2005.
Sandy launched his own debut CD called “Sandy Meldrum---Scottish Piano Fusion” on the leading Greentrax label and quickly reached No. 1 in the Scottish Music CD charts for two weeks in Oct 2006. It still remains in the all-time top 40 in the internet Scottish CD charts.
In 2008, he post-graduated with a Professional Grad. Dip.Ed. in higher music teaching at Edin Univ and is a fully GTCS Registered Music teacher.
Sandy was Nominated for Scotland’s Best Young Traditional Musician in the 2006 national awards run by the BBC, The Arts Council and the Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland.
