SESSIONS

The Islay Inn Sessions

There is an open session every Monday evening in the
Islay Inn, Argyle Street.

During term time the sessions start at 9.30pm approx.

When there are no classes running we usually start an hour earlier - 8.30pm approx.

ALL WELCOME

NB This is not the very slow session.

VERY Slow Session

Next Session - Sunday 19th February 2012

Following on from the success of the well-established Islay Inn sessions we have now started running a very slow session once a month, on Sundays, in the upstairs bar at:
The Curlers Rest
256 – 260 Byres Road
Glasgow G12 8SH

This is near Hillhead Subway Station but remember subways close at 5.00pm on Sundays, so that form of transport is no use for this event.

The sessions will run from 7.30pm until 9.30pm, they will be led by one of the GFW tutors and they will concentrate on the tunes already known and played by GFW at Absolute Beginner, Beginner and Improving Beginner stages. This will be an opportunity to play tunes you know, or are learning, in a pub session environment without being elbowed aside by faster more confident players, and will be akin to the slow sessions before classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

All players at all stages, and all instruments, are welcome.

Remember, if you are an experienced player we will be playing all tunes slowly.

UPDATE 9th January 2012

Finlay has been hard at work putting together a Slow Session website with sound files of the tunes to be played (slowly!), sheet music with fingering etc.

The site was made using iWeb on a Mac and seems to work OK on iMacs with Safari or Firefox, iPads and iPhones. It's also good on PCs running Windows if you use Firefox but there might be issues with Internet Explorer. Anyone using Linux will already know the problems that arise if you don't have Flash installed.

It's still a work in progress so let Finlay know if you have any problems with it and he'll see what he can do.

Note that the sound files don't work immediately. They need a little while to load up before you can click and play.

Also, the guitar/uke chord parts haven't been added yet, but chord players could click on the tune then open the chord page and play along

If you want to download paper copies of the music then try doing that from the Music Gallery page.

Here's a link to the Beta version of the site
